JFK’s niece talks Trump, Clinton and the road ahead in US politics

Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend speaks to Your Money at ASFA Conference 2018.

Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend, niece of JFK and daughter of Bobby Kennedy sat down with Your Money Live’s Camille Bianchi on the sidelines of the ASFA conference of Australian super funds, to discuss the current state of US politics.

The lawyer and former political hopeful said she was “devastated” but “not surprised” when Hilary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump.

“I understand it’s very hard for a woman to be elected to executive power in the United States.”

In 2002, Kennedy herself ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Maryland.

“We don’t have any archetypes of women in those kinds of situations. And so I understood why there’s just this anti-woman undercurrent.”

Kennedy said she hopes the recent scandals surrounding Trump would help to change this attitude.
