Andrew Welsh had a star-studded career long before he went into business, spending a decade at the Essendon AFL club and presiding as vice-captain at the Bombers.

Off the field, his business career has perhaps been even more spectacular as he cracked the top 25 of last year’s Young Rich List, an achievement he’s humble about.

“There’s a lot of debt as there always is with property development,” he told Your Money Live.

While he may have tried his hand at everything from acting, building, fashion and the media, he has always been passionate about property.

Welsh and his father started their own residential property development business in 2010, later moving into construction as well as  the Welsh Group.

The company is currently building Thornhill Park, a new suburb development of 5000 homes, 30 kilometres west of Melbourne’s CBD.

Despite what Welsh admits is a “difficult market”, the company is also behind new commercial projects in Armstrong Creek’s town centre, a suburb of Geelong.

As managing director of the company Welsh’s net worth is now estimated at $121 million, making him the 23rd richest Aussie under 40.
